The action of the Federal Reserve District Banks in raising the discount charge against borrowing commercial banks from 1 3/4 per cent to 2 per cent may not cause a lasting stir in the marketplace or affect measurably the current rate of business activity, but the move will go down, nevertheless, as a historic one in the annals of credit management.
