New York tried to "sell" the idea of safety in the streets yesterday to all her people, and every industry and activity in the city that touches on the problem joined in a parade up Fifth Avenue to show how it could be done. The prime mover in the Safety Day Parade was the Bureau of Public Safety in the Police Department, of which Barron Collier, Special Deputy Police Commissioner, is the head.

The great battle for first place at the Yankee Stadium yesterday was not a battle at all, as had been advertised, but a rout. When the last returns were in, the Yanks were still at the top. The Browns were somewhere below the top and the country was safe. Some 40,000 fans watched the Yanks score a 7-to-2 victory with unconcealed pleasure.
