SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y., Sept. 3 -- By winning the $48,400 Hopeful Stakes in decisive fashion on the closing day of the meeting today, W.R. Coe's Pompey colt, Ladysman, pushed his total winnings to $101,135, the greatest for a juvenile this season, and established himself firmly as the best 2-year-old to show thus far this year.

Recent advances in the prices of cotton and rubber, the principal materials used in tires, have strengthened the position of the industry materially, and the manufacturers are ready for a new attempt to reduce competition and raise quotations.

Carlos Antonio Romero Barceló was a Puerto Rican politician who served as the governor of Puerto Rico from 1977 to 1985. He was the second governor to be elected from the New Progressive Party (PNP). He also served on several other political positions including Mayor of San Juan from 1969 to 1977 and Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico in United States Congress from 1993 to 2001.

Vince Dooley

1932Vince Dooley, American football player and coach (died 2022)[†]

Vincent Joseph Dooley was an American college football coach. He was the head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs from 1964 to 1988, as well as the University of Georgia's (UGA) athletic director from 1979 to 2004. During his 25-year head coaching career, Dooley compiled a 201–77–10 record. His teams won six Southeastern Conference (SEC) titles and the 1980 national championship. After the 1980 season, Dooley was recognized as college football's "Coach of the Year" by several organizations. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994.
