While some branches of business were retarded by uncertainties over the NRA situation, retail sales activity continued to show improvement last week in various sections of the country, under the influence of more seasonable weather conditions and special promotional events.

Slashing onward through a drenching rain and slippery footing, Omaha yesterday won the historic Belmont Stakes before 25,000 persons in a manner definitely to establish himself as the champion 3-year-old of 1935. He brought to his owner, William Woodward, the distinction of being the one man to have bred and owned two triple crown winners.

LARCHMONT, N.Y., June 8. -- Harold S. Vanderbilt, skipper of Rainbow in the America's Cup races last year, sailed his M boat, Prestige, to victory today in the fifty-first annual Spring regatta of the Larchmont Yacht Club. It was the first appearance since 1931 of Prestige, and she showed to advantage in defeating Windward, owned by George Lauder Jr., by more than six minutes over a 14 1/4-mile course.

Amid the pelting rain at Travers Island yesterday, Chuck Hornbostel beat Glen Dawson and Gene Venzke in their heralded three-quarter-mile battle. But ahead of all of them at the tape with a cyclonic finish was Joe Mangan of the New York A.C., unfurling the masterpiece of his career.
