CAIRO, Egypt, Jan. 6 -- With the important Libyan seaport of Bardia safely in British hands after valiant fighting by the Australians, the British forces in Africa pressed forward today toward Tobruk, some seventy miles westward, where Royal Air Force planes carried out destructive bombing raids, in the course of which they downed eleven Italian machines without suffering any losses, according to various official announcements.
