In the Summer of 1940 the Chrysler Corporation chose a muddy cornfield on Detroit's outskirts as the site of a new tank arsenal for the Army. Today the completed arsenal is five city blocks long, two blocks wide.
THE Theatre Guild doesn't yet know what its sixth and final subscription play of the season will be; does not know, really, whether there will be one. The Guild, itself, won't produce any further drama this season (not after the incoming "Somewhere in France"), but is considering one or two independent ones.

1941Fethullah GĂźlen, Turkish preacher and theologian (died 2024)[â ]
Muhammed Fethullah GĂźlen was a Turkish Muslim scholar, preacher, and leader of the GĂźlen movement who as of 2016 had millions of followers. GĂźlen was an influential neo-Ottomanist, Anatolian panethnicist, Islamic poet, writer, social critic, and activistâdissident developing a Nursian theological perspective that embraces democratic modernity. GĂźlen was a local state imam from 1959 to 1981 and he was a citizen of Turkey until his denaturalization by the Turkish government in 2017. Over the years, GĂźlen became a centrist political figure in Turkey prior to his being there as a fugitive. From 21 March 1999 until his death on 20 October 2024, GĂźlen lived in self-exile in the United States near Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania. GĂźlen's body was buried in a plot of land near the Chestnut Retreat Center in Pennsylvania due to the political situation in Turkey.

Dilip Kumar Chakrabarti is an Indian archaeologist, Professor Emeritus of South Asian Archaeology at Cambridge University, and a Senior Fellow at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, Cambridge University. He is known for his studies on the early use of iron in India and the archaeology of Eastern India.
1941Lee Roy Jordan, American football player[â ]
Lee Roy Jordan was an American professional football player who was a linebacker for 14 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL) from 1963 to 1976. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide and was selected by the Cowboys in the first round of the 1963 NFL draft. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983.

World War II or the Second World War was a global conflict between two coalitions: the Allies and the Axis powers. Nearly all of the world's countries participated, with many nations mobilising all resources in pursuit of total war. Tanks and aircraft played major roles, enabling the strategic bombing of cities and delivery of the first and only nuclear weapons ever used in war. World War II is the deadliest conflict in history, causing the death of 70 to 85 million people, more than half of whom were civilians. Millions died in genocides, including the Holocaust, and by massacres, starvation, and disease. After the Allied victory, Germany, Austria, Japan, and Korea were occupied, and German and Japanese leaders were tried for war crimes.
