WASHINGTON, May 21 -- During March 28,685 more civilian workers were employed by the Executive Branch of the Federal Government than at the end of February, the Civil Service Commission announced today, bringing the total to an all-time high of 1,202,348, as compared with 949,229 in March, 1940.

Walter Menzies "Ming" Campbell, Baron Campbell of Pittenweem, was a British politician, advocate and athlete. A senior figure in the Liberal Democrats, he served as Member of Parliament for North East Fife from 1987 to 2015 and led the party from 2006 to 2007. He held prominent frontbench roles in foreign affairs and defence, and was Deputy Leader under Charles Kennedy.

The Anglo-Iraqi War was a British-led Allied military campaign during the Second World War against the Kingdom of Iraq, then ruled by Rashid Ali al-Gaylani who had seized power in the 1941 Iraqi coup d'état with assistance from Germany and Italy. The campaign resulted in the downfall of Gaylani's government, the re-occupation of Iraq by the British, and the return to power of the Regent of Iraq, Prince 'Abd al-Ilah, a British ally.
