ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, May 27 -- Britain's Mediterranean Fleet has fought its way back to base with heavy losses through the fury of Nazi Germany's supreme Blitzkrieg at sea -- yet with its task proudly done. It has accomplished, its officers say, one of the toughest jobs any navy ever faced -- reinforced the British and Greeks who are fighting against the airborne invaders of Crete and prevented any sea-borne invasion of the island.
