Yesterday German resistance in Southern Tunisia collapsed. Marshal Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps was fleeing north over roads that once knew the tread of the soldiers of Rome and Carthage. Ancient towns, Mahares and Sfax, had been abandoned with little attempt to defend them.
