LONDON, Friday, July 30 -- Russian troops, aided by newly arrived cavalry, smashed across a fiercely defended river barrier south of Orel yesterday and captured an enemy base, which contained sixteen ammunition dumps and other spoils and took prisoners, a Soviet communique said today.
