One million employes of the nation's railroads will shift on Thursday from a forty-eight-hour to a forty-hour, five-day work week and at the same time will receive a wage increase of seven cents an hour. The new work schedule that has been evolved will be accompanied by significant internal changes in the rail industry affecting particularly its finances and to some degree its service.
