Secretary General Lie of the United Nations, in a telephone message from Oslo yesterday, urged immediate negotiations for a cease-fire in Korea. His prompt reaction to the surprise call for a truce made by Jacob Malik, chief Soviet delegate, was matched by Assembly President Entezam, who will confer with Mr. Malik today. Eva Bayer-Fluckiger is a Hungarian and Swiss mathematician. She is a Professor Emeritus at Ăcole Polytechnique FĂ©dĂ©rale de Lausanne. She has worked on several topics in topology, algebra and number theory, e.g. on the theory of knots, on lattices, on quadratic forms and on Galois cohomology. Along with Raman Parimala, she proved Serre's conjecture II regarding the Galois cohomology of a simply-connected semisimple algebraic group when such a group is of classical type.
