LONDON, May 2 -- Roger Bannister ran the world's tenth fastest mile today with a clocking of 4 minutes 3.6 seconds. He had a lead of 40 yards as he crossed the finish. The present world record is 4:01.4, set by Gunder Haegg of Sweden in 1945.
