NOT long ago, huntsmen and campers who wandered in the vast wooded preserves of American industry were likely to be escorted out in summary fashion by company patrols. But today, the nation's big forest products corporations have opened than 50 million acres to the public, stocked their streams and fields with quarry and laced their prized timberland with thousands of miles of scenic trails.

Manhattan runners took to the new track at Downing Stadium on Randalls Island yesterday as if they had never had it so good. Fleet Jasper runners won five of the ten running events and their strong field compatriots did well, also, as Manhattan rolled to its fifth consecutive Metropolitan intercollegiate track and field team championship yesterday.

NEW HAVEN, May 16—Wendell Mottley of Yale, who had started to consider himself an “indoor freak,” ran the fastest quarter‐mile of the year today. He won the Heptagonal Games outdoor title in 46.1 seconds in his final race on Yale's DeWitt Cuyler Field.
