Rhodesia declares independence; Smith reads proclamation on radio after rejecting last-min efforts by Wilson; illus; map; Gibbs suspends Smith and his mins on orders from Queen; pub not told of suspension as series of emergency regulations including censorship go into effect; L Baron, white atty who advisee Nkomo, among those detained; 1 troop convoy moves toward Zambian border; no official repts of troop movements disclosed; whites and Africans calm; Smith assures Africans that Rhodesia will strive for racial harmony; pledges tribal chiefs will be brought into Govt and Adm on basis acceptable to them; new Const is virtually same as that of '61; Queen may still appt gov gen on 'advice' of Rhodesian min; exec council to make apptmt if she fails to do so; council to be comprised of Prime Min and mins that he advises 'Officer Administering Govt' to appt; Appellate Div of Rhodesian High Ct becomes highest ct; cases can no longer be appealed to Queen's Privy Council; loyalty oaths remain same except for new passage noting '65 Const; new Const permits change in voting setup by 2/3 majority in Parliament

Emmanuel Michel Benner, known as Many Benner, was a French painter. The son of Jean Benner, Many was the nephew of his father's twin brother, also named Emmanuel Benner. All four Benners were painters.

1965Taher Saifuddin, Indian spiritual leader, 51st Da'i al-Mutlaq (born 1888)[†]

Taher Saifuddin, also known as Tahir Sayf al-Din, was the 51st and longest serving Da'i al-Mutlaq of the Dawoodi Bohras. Saifuddin adapted the modernisation in Western and European ideas, and established its benefits for the Bohras, whilst still steeped in the traditions and the culture of the community's Fatimid heritage. Saifuddin laid substantial groundwork in terms of philanthropy, education, entrepreneurship, social outreach, political outreach, and community upliftment upon which his successors continued to build, resulting in an unprecedented era of prosperity among the Dawoodi Bohras.
