DE GAULLE SAYS HE PRAISED JEWS; Note to Ben-Gurion Explains Much-Criticized Remark

France pubs Ben Gurion and de Gaulle lrs; de Gaulle held his news conf statement was meant as compliment to Jews, again complained that Israel ignored his pre-war warning not to attack, demanded withdrawal from occupied areas and held that withdrawal might make possible Arab recognition of Israel; said withdrawal would not satisfy all of Israel's desires, cited Ben Gurion statement that Palestine had always comprised both banks of Jordan River until '22; Ben Gurion lr charged de Gaulle used wounding expressions in news conf and that his remarks were based on 'incorrect' and 'imprecise information'; said there would have been no wars if Arabs abided by UN Charter, held Israel will be content with its own frontiers if Arabs sign peace treaty on basis of status quo
