WASHINGTON -- Like most developments in the arduous 15-year effort to desegregate Southern schools, application of last week's Supreme Court ruling declaring an end to "all deliberate speed" faces complexities, uncertainties and ambiguities.

" We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of 'separate but equal' has no place. Separate facilities are inherently unequal."

NEW HAVEN, Nov. 1 -- Dartmouth's undefeated football team, a magnificent machine with speed and blocking galore, swept past Yale, 42-21, today before a Yale Bowl crowd of 49,958. The victory was Dartmouth's sixth and a significant milestone on the Indians' intended trip to the Ivy League championship.
