U.S. CUTS GRANTS ON RENEWAL WORK BEGUN IN 50 CITIES
Sec Romney confirms that HUD Dept has imposed 'across the bd' cutback in some urban renewal grants that many cities had regarded as commitments, press conf; development comes to light after Mayor White complained that several urban renewal projects in city could not be completed because dept had drastically slashed what he considers to be $70-million commitment; Boston has received and spent about $144-million in last several yrs and expected to receive $70-million more to complete its projects; White has been told that funds will be stopped after 1 more grant of between $15-million and $20-million; Romney says that in Boston, cost of original commitments has increased 240% already and additional amendatories would bring increase to 420%
