NYC Police Dept, following crackdown on prostitution in midtown area of NYC, finds that there are indications, contrary to popular belief, that prostitution does not fully fall into victimless crime category; dept, since drive began July 1, has checked into background of 1,250 female and 52 male prostitutes it has arrested and found that 40% of these had been arrested previously on other charges; this finding has led dept to conclude, inferentially at least, that there is direct connection between easy atmosphere created by widespread prostitution and comm of other crimes; details
