Washington's National Gallery of Art has purchased a major cubist painting by Pablo Picasso. The gallery reportedly paid $1.1‐million for the canvas, a record sum for a Picasso work. Representing a nude woman, the 6‐foot painting is one of the artist's largest and most unusual works. Page 36.
