AN ATTACK BREAKS TRUCE IN LEBANON

cease‐fire between Lebanese Army and Palestinian guerrillas is broken by incident along Lebanon's northern border with Syria on May 12 when group of armed men fired rockets and mortars at customs post; 1 customs guard is reptd killed and 6 soldiers and 2 policemen wounded at post at Chadra; return to normal life in Beirut, Lebanon, after 2 wks of intermittent fighting, is evidenced by reopening of Beirut Internatl Airport and arrival and departure of commercial flights for 1st time in 5 days; curfew in Beirut is lifted for 10 daylight hrs; Lebanese Pres Franjieh continues consultations with chiefs of Lebanon's Christian and Moslem parties in search of policy toward guerrillas that will win broad natl support; has been insisting that concentration of heavy arms in refugee camps in and around Beirut, where fighting with army was heaviest before cease‐fire was reached, must be dispersed; declaration by 58 members of Parliament has called for storing guerrilla weapons under joint army‐Palestinian supervision, with distribution of weapons authorized only for guerrilla missions against Israel; right‐wing Christian Phalangist party leader P Gemayel proposed closing of 3 refugee camps in Beirut—Dbajeh, Tal Zattar and Bruj al‐Barajneh—which figured heavily in fighting; none of these proposals has backing of enough major political groups to allow such measures to be imposed on Palestinian guerrillas, who remain in control of refugee camps; Palestinian guerrillas release The Chicago Tribune correspondent P Caputo, who was held for 5 days in Shatila refugee camp as suspected US spy; Caputo is released in custody of Algerian Amb M Yazid
