Sources close to Watergate case say on June 8 that H W Kalmbach, Pres Nixon's former personal atty, has agreed to testify for prosecution against H R Haldeman, J D Ehrlichman and other former White House officials, if needed, in any Watergate criminal trials; say Kalmbach 'has not asked for nor has he been given immunity; say Kalmbach is specifically prepared to testify that he reed personal assurances from Ehrlichman that Kalmbach was officially authorized to collect cash to be used to pay Watergate defendants and their attys after break-in at Dem hq; say Kalmbach is prepared to state that he recd most of his day-to-day orders concerning campaign contributions from Haldeman and any of a number of Haldeman deputies in White House; 1 of Kalmbach's associates says that Kalmbach's cooperation is expected to help him to avoid Fed indictment in cover-up of Watergate scandal, or, at least, result in far less serious charges being placed against him; says Kalmbach decided 8 wks ago to cooperate and has already turned over all his available records and files to Fed prosecutors and to Sen Watergate com; Kalmbach has been linked in newspaper repts and Fed grand jury and Sen testimony to variety of secret Repub campaign funds; officials describe uses for which they say funds were used; Kalmbach associate denies on June 8 often-published assertion that Kalmbach was close personal friend of Nixon, telephone int; however, in deposition in civil suit taken Apr 30 and released on June 7, Kalmbach responded 'yes' when asked whether he condsidered his relation with Pres Nixon to be close; he says he did not keep Nixon informed about pol activities on his behalf; Kalmbach associate says that throughout his fund-raising career, Kalmbach took most of his orders from Haldeman; Kalmbach has reptdly said under oath sometime within last 8 wks that about $350,000 in unspent '68 campaign contributions was left in trust fund held, in part, by FM Raine Jr, Haldeman's brother-in-law; Raine is real estate agent who helped to handle purchase of Nixon's San Clemente estate in '69; illus
