In honor of Memorial Day, 100 New York veterans marched up Riverside Drive, laid a wreath of red and white carnations at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, sang “God Bless America” and listened to a speech proclaiming that “to be remembered is never to have died; to be forgotten is never to have lived.” A crowd of several hundred was on hand at the monument, at 89th Street, to listen to that speech by Nicholas Van Eck of the United War Veterans and to hear band music.
