FBI documents released under Freedom of Information Act show that ACLU officials regularly gave bur information on orgn's activities and members for 7 yrs ending in '59; materials suggest that officials sought bur help in identifying Communist Party members who might try to gain seats on bds of orgn's state affiliates; Irving Ferman, former head of orgn's Washington office who appeared to be in frequent contact with bur according to released documents, says policy of orgn was to develop and maintain close relationship with FBI and other Govt agencies during cold war period; documents do not indicate that orgn officials were paid informers, or that bur ‘infiltrated’ orgn; current ACLU Chmn Norman Dorsen and Exec Dir Aryeh Neier call such contacts with bur ‘wrong, inexcusable and destructive of civil liberties principles’; some orgn activities recalled (L)
