South Africa Will Yield on Namibia

It had been a long time coming and when it did arrive last week, South Africa's agreement to self‐government for South‐West Africa came only because no better alternative was left. Pretoria conceded that the territory, called Namibia by Africans, should be granted independence according to plan devised by five Western nations. South Africa has ruled the land since 1920 under a League of Nations mandate but that was revoked 12 years ago.
