Simon: Preaching the Word for Olin

By Unknown Author

One of the most vigorous defenders of the existing economic system is the John M. Olin Foundation, established and funded by the 85‐yearold former chairman of the $1 billion Olin Corporation. For the last few years the foundation has concentrated on support of “scholarship in the philosophy of a free society and the economics of the free market,” as the executive director, Frank O'Connell, puts it. That means, among other things, grants to such institutions as A.E.I. and the Hoover Institution, support for the Friedman and Wattenberg television programs, and funding of centers for the study of free enterprise. In all, the foundation and Mr. Olin personally give some $3 million a year to such projects.
