Iran Air announces major cuts in service because of natl unrest (S)

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25— In the rich Imperial Valley on the Mexican border, more than $10 million worth of lettuce is rotting in the fields. Striking members of the United Farm Workers of America, waving their red-andblack banners in protest, have prevented the harvesting of about 40 percent of the nation's winter lettuce crop.

Venezuela is reportedly raising fuel oil prices by $2 a barrel, or about 14 percent. The move by Venezuela, a big supplier of heavy fuel oil to the East Coast, where fuel prices are already soaring, would follow smaller increases on crude oil by three other members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The Rangers ended Mike Bossy's goal‐scoring streak last night and beat the Islanders, 3‐2, at Madison SquareGarden young Ranger goalie who was starting for the first time since last Jan. 15. In that game Soetaert was bombed out by the Minnesota North Stars and shortly afterward sent down to the minors for conditioning. He and Wayne Thomas were filling in for John Davidson, the regular goalie who had a pulled hamstring muscle.
