Canada Decides It's Time to Change
As Prime Minister for 11 years, Pierre Elliott Trudeau tried to become a symbol of unity for the two cultures of Canada. Last week, his Liberal Party was defeated in elections that showed the country more divided than ever. Liberal support came over- whelmingly from Quebec and smaller French‐speaking islands in Englishdominated Canada. The rest of Canada elected as Prime Minister a clean‐cut Albertan named Joe Clark.
