LOS ANGELES, May 30 — The McDonnell Douglas Corporation, the builder of the DC‐10, has been struggling for years to make a profit from its commercial aircraft. Last Friday's crash of an American Airlines DC‐10 in Chicago that killed 273 persons came as the company was expecting to begin earning money on the aircraft by 1981.
