THIS summer our son bodysurfs. He says it's his “job” and rises each morning at 5:30 to catch the bus to Sandy Beach. I hope that by September he will have had enough of the ocean. Tall waves throw surfers against the shallow bottom. Undertows have snatched them away. Sharks prowl Sandy's. The ocean pulls at the boys, who turn into surfing addicts. At sunset you can see surfers waiting for the last golden wave.

TORONTO, July 25 — Uncertainty about the United States economy‐and about President Carter's ability to steer the United States out of its major problems — has helped put a damper on the high‐flying Toronto Stock Excharpge.

US companies producing oil in Nigeria do not appear worried by prospect that Goverment will cut production 10%, which would reduce world supplies of crude oil by 200,000 to 300,000 a day; Government also wants to increase its ownership of oil, which would allow it to sell more oil under short-term contracts for higher prices (M)
