The stock market scored its best advance in almost three months yesterday, with the blue chip and glamour issues posting the biggest gains.

Exxon, Gulf and Mobil report that production of refined products showed substantial increases in July; rises came after Department of Energy criticized pace of crude oil refining as sluggish; Exxon reports its refineries processed 30,000 more bands of crude a day in July than in June; most of major oil companies have announced that their allocations of gasoline to service stations will increase slightly in August despite larger set-asides for states and for priority users (M)

But, skewed‐looking though he is, with his driver's door permanently jammed partly open and roped to his body, in these days of monstrous gas prices the Desert Fox still gets 16 miles to the gallon. I will be sorry to see him go.
