ABOARD THE SEA SPRITE V THE boat bobs wildly on Long Island Sound in the boil of conflicting currents, but that is ignored. All attention is turned to the rods that jut over the side.
Iknew I could trust them. I mean the four young and sunnily impertinent performers who have spent the summer at the Village Gate bouncing through a satirical revue called “Scrambled Feet” and who are likely to spend winter or two in residence keeping it up‐to‐date. The show is topical and strictly show‐biz, merrily aiming its merciless puns at Broadway producers, Joseph Papp's penchant for producing plays about blinded Vietnam War veterans, choreographers who don't choreograph, agents, out‐ofans, choreographers who don't choreograph, agents, out‐ofwork actors, critics and the rest of the sorry — and ever vulnerable — block. I'd missed the frolic just before going on vacation and I was now catching up on a here‐comes‐September, rain‐spattered night. By 9:30 or so, we'd already been through a wrestling match between The Elephant Man and the paralyzed hero of “Whose Life Is It Anyway?” (very funny), the difficulties Christ would have getting a job even with his good connections (of particular interest to collectors of horrendous puns, tossed into the air lightly as flapjacks), and were beginning to plunge into the Improvisa tional bit when I realized how much confidence I'd acquired in the zany quartet.
