Peat, Marwick Vote: It's a Race

To celebrate musical instruments and the people who make them by hand, the American Craft Museum, at 44 West 53d Street, has put together a remarkably varied exhibition. Finely crafted violins and lutes, calliopes, a harp strung across elk antlers and something made of a shovel, tin can and wire (&#8220;for people who dig music&#8221;) are to be found among the 75 playable objects. Workshops, demonstrations and performances are planned throughout the show, which continues through Dec. 30. William and Mary Buchen will be on hand daily. They work a lot with skulls, bones and gourds, but they will also tell how to make music with, say, a coffee can and string. The museum hours are 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Sundays. Admission is $1; 50 cents for children, students and the elderly.
