LEAD: Seizing the initiative in a long debate over the safety of children on airplanes, the nation's airlines today asked for Federal regulations requiring that infants and toddlers be strapped into protective seats when they fly.
LEAD: President Bush and Secretary of State James A. Baker 3d suggested today that it was time for the Israeli Government to stop hesitating about putting its own peace plan into effect, and to make the necessary compromises to open negotiations with the Egyptians and Palestinians.

Kevin Connauton is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman for the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Utah Mammoth of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted 83rd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2009 NHL entry draft. Connauton has also played for the Dallas Stars, Columbus Blue Jackets, Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, and Philadelphia Flyers.

Marco Scandella is an Italian-Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, and St. Louis Blues. Scandella played major junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for the Val d'Or Foreurs prior to being selected by the Wild in the second-round, 55th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
1990José Napoleón Duarte, Salvadoran engineer and politician, President of El Salvador (born 1925)[†]
José Napoleón Duarte Fuentes was a Salvadoran politician who served as President of El Salvador from 1 June 1984 to 1 June 1989. He was mayor of San Salvador before running for president in 1972. He lost, but the election is widely viewed as fraudulent. Following a coup d'état in 1979, Duarte led the subsequent civil-military Junta from 1980 to 1982. He was then elected president in 1984, defeating ARENA party leader Roberto D'Aubuisson.
