GREGORY RYAN stood before the Deer Park School Board and pleaded with the board to negotiate a wage freeze with the 268 teachers in the district, who were seeking a 6.9 percent increase, because the recession had bled residents dry. THE fans at the Camelot Nursing Home in New London never miss a University of Connecticut basketball game on television. Eight men, all well into their 80's, decked out in their night clothes and robes, follow the fortunes of the Huskies. "Every day after a game I come in to talk with the guys about the game, and they say who did well and what they thought," said the home's director of therapeutic recreation, Pat Borden. "They'll talk about the great team from 1956 and how this team compares.

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation announced last week that 29 corporations invested $128 million last year to help finance 3,500 units of low-income rental housing. The units will be developed in New York City, Jersey City, Newark and elsewhere in the nation through two of LISC's subsidiaries, the National Equity Fund and the California Equity Fund.

Lammtarra was an American-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He ran only four times and retired undefeated. Lammtarra won three Group One races in 1995, in which year he was voted the Cartier Three-Year-Old European Champion Colt after winning the Derby in record time, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He is one of only two horses to win all three races.
