EXPERTS SUGGEST U.S. SHARPLY LIMIT BREAST IMPLANTS
A panel of experts appointed by the Food and Drug Administration recommended today that the use of silicone gel breast implants be substantially restricted, in effect transforming the gel implant business into a huge medical experiment that would help determine the risks of implants. Only women enrolled in experimental trials would be eligible to get the implants. The panel said all women getting reconstruction after breast cancer surgery would be eligible, as would all women with serious breast deformities.
