In Washington, the Senate Republicans say their plan to curb a tax credit for the working poor will save $42 billion by the year 2002. Carolann Robbins, of Providence, R.I., says she cannot comprehend $42 billion. To Ms. Robbins, an administrative assistant who is raising two children alone, $1,800 is a lot of money. That is how much she got last year from the earned-income tax credit that the Republicans want to cut.

Million Man March

1995The Million Man March takes place in Washington, D.C. About 837,000 attend.[†]

The Million Man March was a large gathering of African-American men in Washington, D.C., on Monday, October 16, 1995. Called by Louis Farrakhan, it was held on and around the National Mall. The National African American Leadership Summit, a leading group of civil rights activists and the Nation of Islam working with scores of civil rights organizations, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People formed the Million Man March Organizing Committee. The founder of the National African American Leadership Summit, Benjamin Chavis Jr., served as National Director of the Million Man March.

Skye Bridge

The Skye Bridge is a road bridge over Loch Alsh, Scotland, connecting the Isle of Skye to the island of Eilean Bàn. The name is also used for the whole Skye Crossing, which further connects Eilean Bàn to the mainland across the Carrich Viaduct. The crossing forms part of the A87.
