Beginning tomorrow, in one-on-one meetings with staff members, AT&T supervisors will deliver layoff notices that will ultimately affect 13 percent of the company's work force. An AT&T spokesman, Ritch Blasi, said in a statement yesterday, "A small fraction -- no more than a few thousand -- are likely to be notified on Tuesday."
United States civilian contractors are to begin training Bosnian Muslim soldiers in the next 60 days, Clinton Administration officials say, as the first step toward insuring they can defend themselves after NATO peacekeepers leave. Last week, Bosnian officials in Sarajevo agreed to an Administration plan that calls for the Muslim-Croat federation, which that controls about half of Bosnia, to hire retired American military officers to teach basic soldiering skills and more advanced tactics. United States forces would not be involved in the training.
Clean Ocean Action, a Monmouth County-based environmental organization, is looking beyond the snow blanketing the beaches. What it sees is the debris that inevitably will wash ashore after being dumped in the Hudson and East Rivers with the snow that New York City plowed off its streets last week.

Tyshun Raequan "Deebo" Samuel Sr. is an American professional football wide receiver for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks and was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. Samuel received first-team All-Pro honors with the 49ers in 2021.
