Houses acquired through foreclo sure most selling for less than $100,000 -- will be auctioned tonight, the state office of the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development said. Sixty-nine houses and condominiums in the northern part of the state will be auctioned at the Sheraton at Woodbridge Place in Iselin.

Two men who prosecutors say belong to the Genovese crime family pleaded guilty yesterday to money-laundering charges for their role in stealing nearly $1 million from Seton Hall University in Newark and South Orange in 1990 and 1991, The Associated Press reported. Louis Pacella and Dominick Pietranico face 20 years in prison for their part in stealing from the university, said Zachary W. Carter, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
Sprint Communications yesterday became the latest long-distance company authorized by the state Board of Public Utilities to provide local telephone service in New Jersey. Last month, the board broke up Bell Atlantic New Jersey's virtual monopoly on local service by letting five other companies into the market, in accordance with the Federal Telecommunications Act of 1996.
