Asian Crisis Likely to Slow Economic Liberalization American officials at the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund were confronted by angry Asian leaders who contended that foreign investors set off Southeast Asia's financial crisis. The most extreme accusation came from Malaysia's Prime Minister, who charged the ''great powers'' -- a clear reference to the United States -- with manipulating Asian currencies to knock them off as competitors.
