Dow Falls 157 Points After Declines Overseas The fallout from a worldwide slide in share prices continued to rattle stock markets in the United States. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 157.41 points, or 2.08 percent, at 7,401.32, after bigger declines in some overseas markets. Even the Federal Reserve's decision not to raise interest rates -- which typically would have been seen as a positive sign because it could aid economic growth -- failed to start a rally.
