Doubts About Slowdown Push Yields to 1998 High Investor skepticism about a widely expected weakening in the economy rattled the bond market, depressing prices and elevating the 30-year Treasury yield to 6 percent for the first time since mid-December. Analysts attributed the change to new evidence that the economy was not slowing, as well as fear of inflation expressed last week by Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve.
