Six people were killed by a tornado that touched down on Saturday in Spencer, S.D., wiping out the town's post office, fire station, library, bank and all four of its churches. Of the town's 300 residents, about 150 were injured. Only about two dozen homes survived, and the mayor said he was not sure if many of the residents would want to rebuild. Page A10.
