With its shelves, counters and bins laden with grains, nuts, dried fruits, spices and condiments for Middle Eastern and Indian cuisines, Kalustyan's has long been one of New York's most fragrant and exotic markets. The 56-year-old store, at 123 Lexington Avenue (28th Street), recently had a face-lift, getting a spiffed-up entrance, and has expanded up the staircase to the second floor, which had been an office. There is more room throughout for a greater selection of just about all the store's wares, especially the specialized cookware like couscous pots, Indian thali trays and Turkish coffeepots.

Boryana Nikolaeva Kaleyn is a Bulgarian retired individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2024 Paris Olympic all-around silver medalist. She is the 2023 European all-around champion, the 2024 European champion with hoop, the 2021 and 2022 European all-around silver medalist, and the 2022 European champion with ball, ribbon, and in the team competition. Kaleyn is also the 2023 World Team all-around champion and the 2022 World Cup Series all-around champion in Sofia and runner-up in Baku. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing fifth in the all-around.

2000Gulf Air Flight 072 crashes into the Persian Gulf near Manama, Bahrain, killing 143.[†]
Gulf Air Flight 072 (GF072/GFA072) was a scheduled international passenger flight from Cairo International Airport in Egypt to Bahrain International Airport in Bahrain, operated by Gulf Air. On 23 August 2000 at 19:30 Arabia Standard Time (UTC+3), the Airbus A320 crashed minutes after executing a go-around following a failed attempt to land on Runway 12. The flight crew suffered from spatial disorientation during the go-around and crashed into the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf 2 km (1 nmi) from the airport. All 143 people on board the aircraft were killed.
