Panel Backed by Bush Urges Higher Car Fuel Efficiency A federal panel backed by President Bush has recommended that the government require automakers to improve the fuel efficiency of new vehicles. The draft report does not recommend specific improvements in miles per gallon. But it says the fuel economy of sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks could be raised as much as 8 to 11 miles a gallon in 6 to 10 years with the savings on gas over the 14-year life of the vehicle offsetting the extra cost. 2001Katharine Graham, American publisher (born 1917)[†]
Katharine Meyer Graham was an American newspaper publisher. She led her family's newspaper, The Washington Post, from 1963 to 1991. Graham presided over the paper as it reported on the Watergate scandal, which eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. She was one of the first 20th-century female publishers of a major American newspaper and the first woman elected to the board of the Associated Press.

Concorde is a retired Anglo-French supersonic airliner jointly developed and manufactured by Sud Aviation and the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC). Studies started in 1954, and France and the United Kingdom signed a treaty establishing the development project on 29 November 1962, as the programme cost was estimated at £70 million . Construction of the six prototypes began in February 1965, and the first flight took off from Toulouse on 2 March 1969. The market was predicted for 350 aircraft, and the manufacturers received up to 100 option orders from many major airlines. On 9 October 1975, it received its French certificate of airworthiness, and from the UK CAA on 5 December.
