Stocks fell sharply and broadly as companies as varied as Dell Computer, Ford Motor and Gap provided Wall Street with further evidence that corporate profits appear unlikely to recover soon. Heavy selling in Microsoft also put pressure on the stock market.    The Nasdaq dropped more than 3 percent, bringing the week's loss to 4.6 percent. The S.& P. 500 was down 1.7 percent for the day and 2.4 percent for the week. The Dow Jones industrials dropped 1.5 percent, ending the week down 1.7 percent.

 Ford to Cut 5,000 Workers And Reduce Output This Fall  Ford Motor said it was eliminating 5,000 salaried jobs in North America and planned to reduce production this fall, the latest signs that the auto industry may no longer be able to prop up the stumbling American economy.    The Standard & Poor's credit agency said it was preparing to downgrade the credit ratings of both Ford and General Motors -- a reflection of Wall Street's worries about the domestic carmakers' high costs and the growing market share of import brands.
