One desperate fan, recognizing that the Mets had problems in the 11th inning, screamed ''Willie, Willie'' in a vain attempt to get Manager Willie Randolph to make a pitching change. Heath Bell had just allowed two consecutive singles, and the Houston Astros were muscling their way toward a lead. A few seconds after the fan pleaded with Randolph to do something, Morgan Ensberg smashed a ground-rule double to left field to knock in the tie-breaking run and help power the Astros to a 6-3 victory at Shea Stadium. The fan summed up the developments by shouting an expletive.
THE tourists, bless their hardy souls and open wallets, were out in force along Broadway yesterday, risking sunstroke to line up for the Gray Line bus tours. As a group, out-of-towners are often unloved in this city. The locals like to make fun of them. But New Yorkers could do worse than to hop on a bus themselves.

2005Curtis Pitts, American aircraft designer, designed the Pitts Special (born 1915)[†]
Curtis Hardeman Pitts was an American aircraft designer, aircraft manufacturer, crop duster, and airport fixed-base operator. He became widely known and revered in the aerobatics community for his design of the Pitts Special, a series of highly aerobatic biplanes. Pitts Specials dominated aerobatic competition from the 1960's to the 1970's. Though later outclassed by newer monoplane designs, Pitts Specials remain popular as sport airplanes for their excellent flying qualities. The Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC has called Curtis Pitts' design "revolutionary because of its small size, light weight, short wingspan and extreme agility".
