Jermain Taylor was 16, an amateur in Little Rock, Ark., and ''right-hand crazy,'' he said. He wanted to brawl, not box, which his coach, Ozell Nelson, told him was a dumb, reckless strategy. ''He'd try to take you out, but when you try to be a slugger, with Jermain's size and range, you let a shorter guy get in close,'' Nelson said Wednesday at the MGM Grand, where Taylor will face Bernard Hopkins on Saturday night for the undisputed middleweight championship. ''I said, 'Son, you want to hit, but not get hit.' He said, 'That's lame.'''
