FOR a worrisome week, the invisible Joe Torre was either lost in deep thought or devising a clever stall tactic. He was either dog-walking and working out while contemplating an exit or leaving George Steinbrenner to pant and sweat secretly for his return.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg came into office with an unusual message for the city's 300,000 workers -- they would not get raises unless their unions agreed to money-saving measures that paid for their wage increases. Facing intense pressure from the city's unions, Mr. Bloomberg has given way somewhat on that demand, but, labor experts say, he has nonetheless wrung more productivity increases and other concessions out of the unions than previous mayors have.

Simmering tensions over a sweeping development project in Brooklyn erupted last night at a public hearing, as opponents and supporters took turns applauding, booing and interrupting one another. The meeting exposed deep divisions between residents who want jobs and housing and those who fear the traffic that the project might bring, as well as a host of other problems. The crowd shouted down several speakers, including Marty Markowitz, the borough's president and the project's leading booster, who endured a withering chorus of catcalls while he described the project as ''a wonderful addition to Brooklyn.''

Suburban Legends are an American ska punk band that formed in Huntington Beach, California, in 1998 and later based themselves in nearby Santa Ana. After building a fanbase in the Orange County ska scene through their numerous regular performances at the Disneyland Resort, a series of lineup changes in 2005 introduced elements of funk and disco into the group's style.

Saddam Hussein was an Iraqi politician and revolutionary who served as the fifth president of Iraq from 1979 until his overthrow in 2003 during the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Hurricane Wilma was the most intense tropical cyclone in the Atlantic basin and the second-most intense tropical cyclone in the Western Hemisphere, both based on barometric pressure, after Hurricane Patricia in 2015. Wilma's rapid intensification led to a 24-hour pressure drop of 97 mbar (2.9 inHg), setting a new basin record. At its peak, Hurricane Wilma's eye contracted to a record minimum diameter of 2.3 mi (3.7 km). In the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, Wilma was the twenty-second storm, thirteenth hurricane, sixth major hurricane, fourth Category 5 hurricane, and the second costliest in Mexican history.
