Rich Rodriguez’s lawyers argued Friday that opening the financial records of West Virginia University’s private fund-raising arm is the only way to determine if his abrupt resignation as coach had harmed the university financially. The filing, part of an official response Friday to the university’s lawsuit, largely restated arguments that Rodriguez’s lawyers had previously made in response to the lawsuit over a $4 million buyout clause in his contract. Rodriguez asked the court to make the fund-raising group, the WVU Foundation, a third party to the lawsuit.
